Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi is set to take oath as the PM for the third consecutive term on Sunday, June 9 at 6 pm in the presence of world leaders from neighbouring countries after his party, the BJP led NDA unanimously elected him to the post of PM in a key meeting that took place in Delhi on June 5.
The oath taking ceremony was earlier scheduled on June 8 but has been shifted later to accommodate the schedules of attending world leaders of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
World leaders invited
Among the 8000 dignitaries present on Saturday, world leaders including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal are set to attend the function.
Invitations have been sent to his counterparts in Bhutan, Mauritius and Maldives as well. The Ministry of External affairs has confirmed that Maldives President Mohammad Muizzu, Vice President of Seychelles Ahmed Afif, Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and head of state of Mauritius are coming to attend the swearing-in ceremony.

Security arrangements
Considering the presence of such high profile individuals, security has to be top notch as well. The Indian authorities conducted multiple security meetings on Thursday to discuss security prospects of the attending dignitaries. Accomodations in four hotels: the Taj Palace, The Oberoi, The Leela Palace and ITC Maurya have been arranged.
Citing a source, the Indian Express reported that they have made security arrangements for the bilateral meeting, which they are expecting will take place a day after the swearing-in ceremony and then guests will leave. “It has been informed in the meeting that all the newly elected MPs will come along with their spouse and three guests. We are planning to organize a rehearsal before the event to improve the coordination between all the agencies,” the source said.
President appoints Modi as PM-designate
Taking to X, the caretaker PM Modi informed the citizens that President Murmu has invited him for the oath taking ceremony. “The President called me just now and asked me to work as the PM delegate and she has informed me about the oath ceremony. I have told the President that we will be comfortable on the evening of the 9th of June,” he said.
Additionally, asserting that the NDA will form a stable and growth oriented government, PM Modi gave a speech today outside Rashtrapati Bhavan. The speech was broadcasted on X at 6:31 pm today.
