Rohit Sharma, known as the ‘Hitman’, achieved remarkable milestones in his career as both a batter and captain during India’s T20 World Cup 2024 opener against Ireland on Wednesday.
In this match, Rohit became the first player ever to hit 600 sixes in international cricket, with Chris Gayle trailing behind at 553 sixes. Additionally, Rohit surpassed MS Dhoni, becoming the Indian captain with the most T20I victories.
During his illustrious tenure as India’s captain, MS Dhoni secured 41 wins in 73 T20I matches, excluding Super Over victories.

In contrast, Rohit Sharma has achieved 42 wins in just 55 T20Is, boasting a win percentage of 77.29, significantly higher than Dhoni’s 59.28%. Virat Kohli, meanwhile, has 30 wins in 50 T20Is, with a win percentage of 60.
Leading the overall list is Pakistan’s Babar Azam, with 46 wins in 81 matches, though his win percentage is notably lower than Rohit’s.
With his 42nd win, Rohit has joined England’s Eoin Morgan and Afghanistan’s Asghar Afghan in second place for the most T20I wins as captain.
In the match against Ireland, Rohit Sharma scored an impressive 52 runs off 37 balls, achieving a strike rate of 140.54. His innings included 4 fours and 3 sixes, bringing his total to 600 sixes in international cricket.
Unfortunately, his time at the crease was cut short by an injury at the end of the 10th over in New York on Wednesday.
