Bhajanlal Sharma, a post-graduate in political science, has been named as the next chief minister of Rajasthan by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Sharma, a sitting MLA from Sanganer assembly, won the seat after defeating Congress leader Pushpendra Bhardwaj by over 48,000 votes.
Sharma chosen to chair the BJP legislative group
After the party’s triumph in the most recent State Assembly election, there had been days of discussion over who would become the future Chief Minister of Rajasthan. However, on Tuesday, the BJP made the unexpected choice to choose Bhajan Lal Sharma, a first-time MLA from the Sanganer seat in the Jaipur region. At a gathering of the BJP parliamentary party held here, Mr. Sharma’s name was declared in the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and a central observer.
Mr. Sharma’s name was put out by former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who was also thought to be a contender for the top position. A few other prominent figures also supported it, including Sawai Madhopur MLA Kirodi Lal Meena. Saroj Pandey, a member of the Rajya Sabha, and Vinod Tawde, the national general secretary of the BJP, were the other two central observers present.
Sharma vows to build the state holistically
Significantly, Sharma, a first-time MLA, won the Sanganer seat by a margin of 48,081 votes. He is from the eastern area of Rajasthan called Bharatpur, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is said to be supporting him strongly. Sharma is now the state general secretary of the BJP. With an astounding 145,162 votes, he defeated Pushpendra Bhardwaj of the Indian National Congress (INC), who received 97,081 votes, to win the Sanganer assembly seat.
