Retired musician Pankaj Udhas, known for hits like “Chitthi aayi hai,” passed away in Mumbai today following a protracted illness, according to his family at 72.
According to a statement released by the Udhas family, “We are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padma Shri Pankaj Udhas on 26 February due to a prolonged illness.”
As to a family source cited by the news agency PTI, Udhas, who gained recognition as a playback vocalist in Hindi films such as “Naam”, “Saajan”, and “Mohra”, passed away at the Breach Candy Hospital at about 11 am.
‘Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein’, ‘Chandani Raat Mein’, ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhaar’, ‘Ek Taraf Uska Ghar’, and ‘Thodi Thodi Piya Karo’ are some of his timeless ghazals.

Indian playback and ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas (17 May 1951 – 26 February 2024) was well-known for his contributions to Indian music and Hindi film. Aahat, a ghazal album, marked the beginning of his career in 1980. He went on to record several songs, including Mukarar in 1981, Tarrannum in 1982, Mehfil in 1983, Pankaj Udhas Live at Royal Albert Hall in 1984, Nayaab in 1985, and Aafreen in 1986.
