During the 2024 IPL season, the team from Kolkata had a remarkable run, suffering just three losses. Shreyas Iyer led the squad, and their defeats came at the hands of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Rajasthan Royals (RR). It’s interesting to note that back in the 2008 season, Rajasthan Royals also had only three losses, holding the record for the fewest defeats by a team in a single IPL season

Mitchell Starc, who was a big-ticket purchase for Kolkata Knight Riders, lived up to expectations. Only SRH skipper Pat Cummins managed to make a notable contribution, scoring 24 runs off 19 balls with two fours and a six, while Aiden Markram added 20 runs from 23 balls with three fours. SRH’s innings ended at 113 all out in 18.3 overs.

Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana also made significant contributions, taking 2 wickets each while conceding 14 and 24 runs respectively. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, and Vaibhav Arora chipped in with a wicket each to further dent SRH’s batting lineup.

Kolkata Knight Riders achieved the target of 114 runs in just 10.3 overs with eight wickets to spare. Venkatesh Iyer played a stellar innings, scoring an unbeaten 52 runs off 26 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes. Rahmanullah Gurbaz also made a significant contribution with 39 runs off 32 balls, featuring five fours and two sixes. Their performances were instrumental in KKR’s victory in the final match of the tournament.
