Kate’s Enigmatic Absence
The recent absence of Kate Middleton from public view has sparked a flurry of conspiracy theories across online platforms.
Speculation heightened after the Princess of Wales acknowledged a significant editing error in her Mother’s Day photo featuring her three children, leading to increased scrutiny of all images released by the Palace or its affiliates.
Ending speculations surrounding her mysterious ‘disappearance’, Princess Kate Middleton was reportedly spotted appearing “happy and relaxed” during an outing with her husband, Prince William, at a farm shop near their Windsor home on 17th March 2024 Sunday.
This marks the first public sighting of Kate since her scheduled abdominal surgery in January.
Netizens Raise Stark Suspicions
However, a portion of the internet remains unconvinced, perpetuating the intrigue surrounding Middleton’s whereabouts.
Several users on X raised eyebrows when they claimed that a recent photo of the 42-year old Princess in a car didn’t resemble her.
Curiosity intensified as observers noted that none of the images captured her entire face, raising questions about the authenticity of the pictures, especially since only Prince William’s face was clearly visible in each shot.
The intrigue didn’t end there, with eagle-eyed royal enthusiasts also scrutinizing the color of the bricks visible in the background, which appeared to differ from those outside the car.
Why is Kate avoiding the public gaze?
Since undergoing abdominal surgery in January, Middleton has maintained a low profile, staying out of the public eye.
Apart from two paparazzi snapshots—one featuring her in a car with her mother, Carole, and another alongside Prince William—and a single photo released by Kensington Palace (which stirred its own controversy), the Princess of Wales has remained unseen since December.
Middleton captured, Unwarned, Shopping!
The British tabloid – Sun released images and footage of Kate and William at a nearby farm stand in Windsor, captured on Saturday, March 16.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are seen smiling as they carry grocery bags at a local farm stand. Nelson Silva, who captured the footage revealed, “I spotted a couple selecting loaves of bread, and the woman’s face seemed familiar. I recognized it from somewhere.
Then William turned around, and I realized, ‘Wait, I know this person.'” Silva explained. “I just wanted to share the footage with my family to showcase how ordinary they appeared.”
Is there a Doppelgänger racket going on?
One, of the many conspiracy theory has been swiftly debunked which suggests a professional look-alike, Heidi Agan, portrayed the Duchess of Cambridge in the footage, Agan herself has refuted such notions, asserting that she was at work during the time of filming.
Addressing the buzz surrounding her resemblance to Catherine, Agan emphasized the need to afford the Princess of Wales privacy and time to recuperate post-surgery, confirming her belief that the individuals in the video were indeed Kate and William.
Tracing the controversy of the Princess
On the morning of March 10, 2024, The royal family shared the photo of Middleton with her online, captioning it captioning it “Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months. Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. C.
It is speculated by BBC that the image was first photoshopped on 8th March 2024.
Public attention focused on the royal princess; missing ring and a glaring Photoshop error on Princess Charlotte’s sleeve. There were inconsistencies in Princess Charlotte’s left hand alignment, while further discrepancies, including the pattern on Prince Louis’ sweater, were noted.
I’ve never been much of a conspiracy theorist but if @AP @AFP @Reuters & other picture agencies are concerned enough to remove it and ask clients to delete it, there are serious questions for Kensington Palace – which was the source of the photo.

Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C

Photoshopped from past picture?
A viral theory emerged on Twitter suggesting that the Princess’ face in the Mother’s Day photo was copied from an old Vogue photoshoot. Photographers stationed near Windsor accidentally captured the image while snapping Prince William heading to the Commonwealth Day event.
