On Thursday, Air India announced salary hike for its 18000 employees, who joined before December 31 2023, and performance bonus payouts for FY 2023-24 based on company and individual performance.
As part of larger efforts towards developing performance driven and meritocratic culture among employees, Air India is providing its staff with competitive salaries and also attract and retain talent.
These appraisals are based on the new Performance Management System (Rise.AI) and with effect from April 1, 2024. It is in fact the first appraisal since the Tata Group took over the airline in January 2022 and forms a part of the 2nd phase of Vihaan.AI journey, the 5-year transformation plan for Air India.
The salary hike plan
The raise in salary will cater to all employees, be it a ground staff, crew or pilots. Pilots will receive an increment of Rs.5000 – Rs.15,000 per month depending on their experience and position with performance bonus payouts for FY25. For first officers and captains, the monthly pay raise is Rs.5000 and for commanders and senior commanders it is additional Rs.15,000 per month.
Junior first officers will receive no salary hike but will be granted an annual bonus of Rs.42,000 subject to high performance. The amount varies from Rs.60,000 to Rs 1.8 lakh for senior positions.
Similarly cabin crew will be paid an annual performance bonus of around Rs.25,000. Cabin crew will also get a standard salary increase, not disclosed yet, for FY25 effective from April. The ground staff are entitled to a raise in pay as well.
Moreover, the airline has introduced an annual target performance bonus for its pilots. The bonus will be conditional on company and individual performance and will be applicable from FY 2024-25.
