Russia was hit by a Ukrainian drone hitting its third largest refinery on Tuesday. This strike was 1300 kilometers from the front line hitting a refinery which processes 1,55,000 barrels of crude per day. The evidence has shown that the primary unit at the refinery was hit but no serious damage was done.
A fire broke out after the hit on the unit but was extinguished within 20 minutes, the state news agency (RIA) reported. This statement was also verified by Ramil Mullin, the mayor of Nizhnekamsk in the Tatarstan region southeast of Moscow.
Russian officials informed that jamming devices were locked on the Ukrainian drone which produces 17 million tons of annual production.
The military intelligence of Ukraine has been at war for the past 2 years, and they have claimed this attack to have caused “significant damage”.
Ukraine and Russia both the countries have conducted several attacks and strikes on each other since the start of the war. Ukraine has also hit several military units of Russia and oil refineries. A similar attack was made by the Russian forces when they attacked the Ukrainian energy grid. Ukraine has now hit the Russian refinery trying to cause significant damage to the government’s pockets.
Though this war has raised concerns of escalation into a nuclear one, Ukraine claimed that the attack was justified because they are fighting for survival and their property has been significantly hit. Ukraine also said it was attacked by around 4630 Russian long-range drones.
The Kremlin said “The Kyiv regime continues its terrorist activity. We and our military are primarily working to minimise this threat, and subsequently to eliminate it.”
Drone Battle
After the Armenia-Azerbaijan war, the importance of drones was highlighted. Many gave the entire credit for Azerbaijan winning to the Turkish drones used. This has led to the more strategic usage of drones to conduct attacks deep inside enemy territory.
The Ukraine-Russia drone attack has continued to date to prevent any kind of human loss and hit the enemy strongly. Several more drone attacks were reported in the past 2 years from both sides.
