WhatsApp will now let you access both of your separate accounts from a single device, if you utilize both. The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, revealed on Thursday that WhatsApp is starting to allow users to switch between accounts on Android devices. This means you won’t have to carry around an additional device or keep logging out of your account in order to accomplish this.
Managing discussions between different accounts—for example, if you use one WhatsApp account for business and another for friends and family messaging—should be made simpler with the help of this new feature. In the upcoming weeks, it will be implemented.
Using two WhatsApp accounts required carrying two phones in the past. The business is now enabling users to manage two accounts with a single phone. Features like app cloning have also been added by phone makers like Oppo and Xiaomi, enabling users to utilize numerous WhatsApp instances.
In a blog post, the business stated that it was “helpful for switching between accounts – such as your work and personal – now you no longer need to log out each time, carry two phones, or worry about messaging from the wrong place.”
What are the steps to be followed ?
According to Meta, in order to create a second account, you will still require a different phone number and SIM card (or a phone that supports multi-SIM or eSIM). In order to obtain the one-time passcode that WhatsApp will provide via SMS to access your second account on a different device, you will also require the second phone or its SIM card. Ellie Heatrick, a WhatsApp representative, states that following this first authentication, the app will function for both accounts without requiring a second device or SIM.
Adding multiple devices for a WhatsApp account
In 2021, Meta launched a multi-device feature that allows you to use your WhatsApp account on PCs, Android tablets, and web browsers. Meta has been striving to make it easier to access your WhatsApp account on other devices. You are no longer restricted to utilizing your account on a single phone thanks to Meta’s recent expansion of this capability to accommodate multiple cellphones.
To add an additional account, users can navigate to Settings > Add Account. You will need a phone with a physical or eSIM slot for multi-SIM setup, or your second phone with a SIM. You will be able to control unique notifications and privacy settings for every account, according to the business.
WhatsApp added passkey support for the Android version earlier this week, allowing users to log in without the need for SMS-based two-factor verification.
WhatsApp users can use one account across four devices as it already supports multiple devices. The business released a feature earlier this year that lets several devices log into a single account. The QR code is provided by the app itself, which after scanning helps the user to use the account on multiple devices including PCs and Laptops.

The development of WhatsApp Messenger
The program was developed by Mountain View, California-based WhatsApp Inc., which Meta platforms purchased in February 2014 for about US$19.3 billion. By 2015, it was the most widely used messaging app globally, and by February 2020, there were over 2 billion users.
WhatsApp and JioMart established a connection in August 2022, although it was exclusively accessible to Indian customers. Local users can order groceries through an in-app shopping process by texting specific numbers in the app.
WhatsApp Channels
WhatsApp launched the WhatsApp Channels in India last month, Mark Zuckerberg announced in a Facebook post. WhatsApp Channels are a “one-way broadcast tool” for sending text, images, videos, stickers, and polls. You can get updates from thought leaders, sports teams, and celebrities in private. Channels have been launched in India by Diljit Dosanjh, Katrina Kaif, Akshay Kumar, and the BCCI.
Former Yahoo workers Brian Acton and Jan Koum started WhatsApp (Messenger) in February 2009.
