The minimum temperature in Srinagar on Saturday night was minus 4.2 degrees Celsius, which was 4.4 degrees colder than the 0.2-degree temperature on Friday. They stated that while Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered – 1.2 degrees Celsius, Qazigund recorded a low of minus 4 degrees. A low temperature of minus 5.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at Pahalgam, which is one of the base camps for the yearly Amarnath Yatra and is located in the Anantnag region in south Kashmir.

Strong Cold Wave Deepens in Kashmir, Causing

Other locations in the valley, such as the famous ski resort in Baramulla, also experienced low temperatures. The Met Department predicts that the weather will remain mainly dry until the end of the month. Kashmir is currently under the grip of ‘Chilla-i-Kalan’, the 40-day harshest winter period, where a cold wave grips the region and temperatures drop considerably, leading to the freezing of water bodies. The chances of snowfall are highest during this period, with most areas receiving heavy snowfall. The cold conditions will continue with a 20-day-long ‘Chilla-i-Khurd’ and a 10-day-long ‘Chilla-i-Bachha’.
