India’s objective
Modi announced five specific targets at the 26th edition of the CoP in Glasgow, Scotland, as part of India’s climate action plan. These targets include committing to be “net zero” by 2070, committing at least 500 GW of energy installations from non-fossil sources by 2030, cutting carbon emissions by a billion tonnes, reducing the economy’s carbon intensity by 45%, and meeting half of India’s energy requirements from renewable energy by 2030.
The upcoming CoP summit in Dubai will conclude the Global Stocktake, a first-ever assessment of each country’s actions towards achieving Paris 2015 targets to keep the global average temperature below 2 degrees Celsius and as close as possible below 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century.
