Team India is set to kick off their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday, June 5.ย
The team has enjoyed a strong lead-up to the tournament, with most players getting ample practice during the IPL. A warm-up match also provided valuable insights on adapting to the new venue in New York despite some uncertainties.ย
While many members from the 2022 squad in Australia have been retained, there are a few new additions and returning players in the lineup.

The most notable addition to the squad is Sanju Samson, who acknowledged that he had to work hard to earn his place through his performance in the IPL.ย
Shivam Dube, another standout from the IPL, made his way into the team despite recent form fluctuations, becoming a key middle-order player for the Chennai Super Kings.ย
Yashasvi Jaiswal also secured a spot at the top of the order, demonstrating positive intent and good temperament in both T20Is and Tests over the past year.
Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, who were sidelined from the last T20 World Cup due to injuries, are back. Bumrah, especially, had an impressive IPL season and is now fit and eager to play for the national team.ย
Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj have also been included, while eight players from the previous squad have retained their places.

Among the players left out, the most notable omission is KL Rahul. His exclusion was anticipated due to concerns over his strike rate and his underwhelming performances in the last T20 World Cup.ย
Additionally, he hasn’t been part of the T20 team for the past 18 months. Dinesh Karthik, a surprise pick last time, was not reconsidered for this tournament.ย
Mohammed Shami is recovering from heel surgery and won’t be available until August. Deepak Hooda, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Harshal Patel have been out of the T20 setup for over a year, leading to their omission.
India considered adding an off-spinner, but with four spinners already in the squad, R Ashwin was not included.
