In Sunday’s IPL 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, controversy was the name of the game. Virat Kohli‘s dismissal on what seemed like an above-waist-height no-ball sparked heated debate, despite umpires and broadcasters standing by the decision. And just when fans were digesting that, another contentious moment arose.
A new video surfaced from the match, reigniting the controversy. This time, it involved RCB batter Suyash Prabhudesai. In the 17th over, facing KKR’s Varun Chakravarthy with Dinesh Karthik at the other end, Suyash sent the ball soaring towards the fine-leg boundary. The umpires signaled four runs, but fans were convinced it was a six, as the ball appeared to cross the boundary rope.

Virat Kohli’s Heated Exchange with Umpire Circulates During RCB vs KKR Match
RCB came into the match against KKR at Eden Gardens with a determined mindset, treating it as a crucial game for the team’s prospects. Kohli, leading the run charts with the Orange Cap, showcased his batting prowess early on, dominating the bowlers from the start.

Shortly after, Gautam Gambhir was seen approaching the fourth umpire, engaging in an intense discussion while gesturing towards his legs. Reports suggest that Gambhir was debating with the umpire regarding Sunil Narine’s substitution with Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Despite Gambhir’s objections, the umpire upheld the decision, forcing the experienced West Indies spinner to return to the field for the final two overs of the innings.

RCB’s agonising defeat
This incident came on the heels of a controversial moment involving RCB’s Virat Kohli, who contested an umpire’s decision after being given out on a full toss. Kohli was insistent that it was a no-ball and called for a review. However, it was later confirmed that he had strayed from his crease at the time of delivery.
Despite impressive half-centuries from Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar, RCB fell agonizingly short by just one run. Jacks scored a quick 55 off 32 balls, while Patidar contributed a rapid 52 from 23 deliveries. However, their efforts weren’t enough to chase down KKR’s formidable target of 223.
In the end, RCB were bowled out for 221, despite a valiant effort from Karn Sharma, who smashed 20 runs off just 7 balls.
KKR’s bowling attack, led by Andre Russell, proved decisive with three wickets for 25 runs. Sunil Narine and Harshit Rana also played crucial roles, each taking two wickets, sealing KKR’s thrilling victory over RCB.
