DAilY PlayLIST: Your Day’s Spotify Wrapped
Spotify Wrapped is a sought-after feature, encompassing your annual music mood, becoming a hot among Spotify users and creating a buzz after its available by the year end.
Working on the algorithms of Wrapped, Spotify debuted its novel feature called ‘Daylist’ in September 2023.
What is it you ask?
Well, its an ever-evolving, dynamic and fluctuating playlist that comes in three instalments daily. Distinctly personalised and tailor-made just for you, you can access your daylist in the morning, afternoon and evening.
Funky names keeps its fame
Moreover, what makes it even more enthralling is the funky names that AI generated for the playlists. The album, curated after careful analysis of your playing history at the different times of the day is just the perfect playlist you want to listen to in your current mood.
This feature is an attempt to hook the users to the app as they await the updates throughout the day while at the same time making the app feel like a warm hug that gets your mood and vibe by putting your thoughts and spirit into a playlist and packaging it with a title so creatively irresistible that you cant help but click on it.
Some very quirky titles of Daylist include – Life Sucks, Bedroom pop banger early morning, Nervous Ocean Monday Morning, Paranormal Dark Cabaret Evening or Yearning and Melodramatic
Although, the highly attractive AI generated titles create excitement among users, there are some unpleasant episodes as well. A user felt “personally bullied” when they received a Daylist titled ‘Tailspin Self-Sabotaging Monday Afternoon.’
Another listener got a one named ‘Witchy Ethereal Tuesday’ which got them sceptical as they expressed ‘What does it mean — that I listen to forests?’
Where to find your Daylist?
Open your spotify app and search for ‘daylist’ or you can also find in in the section named’ Made For You’. If you don’t have the spotify app, type spotify.com/daylist on google and give your ears and mind some love. Daylists keep updating throughout the day and you can see your next update from the playlist page. These Daylists can also be saved as playlists in your Music Library.
Molly Holder, chief product director remarks that the peculiar playlist names are a playful way to express audio identity. Data scientists and music experts recognize our preferred picks in genre, mood and themes through methods like music expert annotation, sonic similarity and trends.
Save, Share and Savor
This ‘smart’ feature is adored by music lovers, who await to get their timely daylist with wacky names and some have even made it a ritual to share it amongst their close friends. The fact that daylists are shareable has boosted its performance tremendously as people devotedly share their outlandishly titled daylists.
This mini-version of wrapped, that tracks your music taste, from the artists you worship, to the songs you loop or the genres you search for came to fame in December. Owing its publicity to Instagram’s ‘Add Yours’ feature that allows you to personalise a story template, users started posting their Daylist, thus creating a thrill among masses.
Daylists are a hit among users since they are mood specific. The productive morning energy might be replaced with an unwinding mood in the evening. The dynamic nature of these playlists give listeners something to look forward to with intrigue and anticipation.
This new monopolising and marketing feature on Spotify joins the ‘sound town’ feature that assigns you a city anywhere in the world based on your listening habits and similar music/artists.
