The Pakistan Election Commission has formed a high-level committee to look into the explosive claims made by a senior bureaucrat that widespread election manipulation against the party of imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan, with assistance from the judiciary and the top election body, occurred in the garrison city of Rawalpindi. At a demonstration demanding free and fair election results, supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the party of former prime minister Imran Khan, yell slogans outside the provincial election commission headquarters in Karachi, Pakistan on February 17, 2024.
The Pakistani electoral commission has established a high-level committee to look into the shocking claims made by a senior bureaucrat that the top election body and the court conspired to orchestrate massive election cheating against the imprisoned former prime minister.
Chief Justice and CEC of Pakistan Involved in Voter Fraud
A senior Pakistani administrator resigned from his position on Saturday, accepting “responsibility for all this wrongdoing,” and claimed that the chief judge and chief election commissioner had participated in poll rigging in the most recent election.
The comments made by former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha coincided with the statewide rallies launched by Imran Khan’s banned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party against the alleged manipulation and snatching of their mandate in the elections held on February 8. The candidates who were “losing” the polls “were made to win,”
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected allegations made by former Pindi Chief Election Commissioner, Muhammad Chattha, regarding the manipulation of poll results. Chattha resigned from his office after accepting responsibility for the manipulation, stating that he was under pressure to commit suicide. The ECP has stated that no official of the commission issued instructions regarding changing election results to Chattha, and no division commissioner has played a direct role in the conduct of elections.
Punjab’s Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered an impartial probe into Chattha’s allegations. Following Chattha’s press conference, he was arrested and shifted to an unknown location. PTI senior leader Zulfi Bokhari criticized the revelation, stating that the entire Pindi Division’s elections have been rigged, rendering them null and void.
The Chief Justice and CEC must go, says Imran Khan’s party
Following accusations by a senior bureaucrat that the court and top election body were complicit in vote fraud, the party of imprisoned former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan has sought the resignations of Pakistan’s Chief Election Commissioner and Chief Justice.
Liaquat Ali Chattha, a former commissioner of Rawalpindi, claimed on Saturday that the candidates who were “losing” the polls “were made to win” in the city. He asserted that 13 Rawalpindi contestants were compelled to be proclaimed the winners.
Rawalpindi Chief Justice Chattha has resigned from his post as Rawalpindi Commissioner, following allegations of election rigging. The chief justice, who was jailed for allegedly stealing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party’s mandate in the February 8 elections, has resigned from his post. The PTI spokesperson has demanded that Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja and Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa resign following Chattha’s revelations. The PTI spokesperson praised Chattha’s admission of the alleged rigging and exposed the real culprits involved.
However, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, has seen a significant shift in the political landscape following the revelation of allegations by Pakistani politician, Chattha, that the victory of independent candidates with over 70,000 votes was turned into a defeat by fake stamps.
This revelation supports the PTI’s stance that people had voted for PTI-affiliated independent candidates in large numbers, but the overwhelming PTI majority was allegedly turned into a minority overnight through poll “fraud”. PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan has called for the return of PTI’s 86 stolen seats in the National Assembly and for all elements involved in stealing public mandate to be punished under the Constitution and the law.
