To mark International Safer Internet Day, well known dating platform, Bumble launched a novel feature called Deception Detector. This release, on 6th February 2024, is powered by AI (Artificial Intelligence) and strengthens customer safety.
The application employs machine-learning based model to detect and eliminate fake or spam user profiles before even reaching the consumers. The growing culture of creating phony profiles has instilled doubt and hesitance in users.
In a worldwide research conducted by the company in 2023, the issue of fake profiles ranked as the topmost concern of the Twenty Eight Thousand people sampled. Bumble’s this feature addresses this suspicion, giving the app more credibility and authenticity. The survey also registers around 29% respondents concerned over personal data seurity and 28% people apprehensive of falling victims to online deceit.
Deception Detector: Fake Profile Blocker
Deception Detector’s launch preceeds a two-month period of testing, which had an adequate efficacy of 45% in recognizing and reporting scam accounts on Bumble.
The profiles are scrutinized, their connections on the software are verified and then the AI tool makes the decision whether the profile is veritable or not, based on several different parameters. If the account does not clear the evaluation process, it is automatically eliminated from the app.
The statistics of the new feature blocking 95% of the tested fraud accounts reinforces its efficacy. Although the success, this system is run with human supervision in case a technical glitch aberrantly blocks an innocent account. This human interference in the mechanism is needed to minimize the risks involved.
