Atishi Leads AAP's 'Insulin' Protest Outside Delhi's Tihar Jail as Arvind Kejriwal's Blood Sugar Soars Above 300

On Sunday, Delhi Minister Atishi purported that jailed chief minister Arvind Kejriwal Sugar level passes 300, she joined a protest staged by AAP carrying insulin injections outside the Tihar jail. The Protestors pressed the Tihar jail administration to guarantee Arvind Kejriwal’s access to insulin, highlighting the criticality of his medical condition.

The protest came about following a report from the Tihar jail administration to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The report stated that Arvind Kejriwal’s health had been assessed by a specialist on April 10 and April 15, who recommended oral anti-diabetic medication. The report clarified that there was no instance where Arvind Kejriwal was denied insulin during his treatment.

Arvind Kejriwal was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection to a money-laundering case associated with the Delhi government’s previously revoked excise policy. Since April 1, he has been confined in Tihar jail. During a protest, Atishi, a spokesperson for AAP, expressed concern about Kejriwal’s health, stating, “Arvind Kejriwal has been in jail for the last 20 days. He has been battling diabetes for 30 years, and his blood sugar levels have soared above 300. Any doctor would agree that such high levels require insulin for control.

However, it’s distressing that the Tihar administration, seemingly under BJP’s influence, has denied him insulin. This level of cruelty is unprecedented, even surpassing the era of British rule. How can the BJP deny insulin to a diabetic patient with such critical health condition?”

On a social media platform, Atishi expressed her dismay in Hindi, stating, “@ArvindKejriwal Ji’s blood sugar levels have exceeded 300, yet the BJP‘s political tactics have led the Tihar administration to deny him insulin. Despite the people of Delhi stepping up to provide insulin to their Chief Minister when the jail authorities failed to do so, the police officers declined to accept it. If this isn’t a deliberate plot to harm Kejriwal Ji, then what else could it be?”

During a recent press conference, Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj raised concerns about the contradictory actions of Tihar authorities regarding medical care for diabetics. He pointed out that despite earlier claims of sufficient medical facilities, Tihar authorities had now requested a diabetologist from AIIMS. Bharadwaj emphasized the timing of this request, stating that it came nearly 20 days after Arvind Kejriwal had been lodged in Tihar.

In response to Bharadwaj’s allegations, the Tihar administration stated that senior specialists from AIIMS had indeed provided consultation to Arvind Kejriwal via video conference. Following a thorough 40-minute discussion, Kejriwal was assured that there were no serious concerns and was advised to continue with his prescribed medications, which would be regularly reviewed.

The video conference had been arranged at the request of Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, and included medical officers from Tihar as well. The AIIMS specialist received comprehensive information about Kejriwal’s glucose monitoring, diet, and medication regimen.

However, Bharadwaj reiterated his belief that there was a “conspiracy” to harm Kejriwal while he was in judicial custody. He highlighted the conflicting perspectives, with Kejriwal asserting his need for insulin and medical consultation, while the BJP and Tihar authorities claimed he was in good health and did not require insulin.
