The Apple fever is up again.
Just weeks after the launch of its Apple Pencil USB-C, Apple showcased a scary fast event launching the new M3 chips, iMacs, and MacBook.
Following the company’s announcement of an unexpected “Scary Fast” event last week, there were rumors circulating that Apple was going to unveil new chips to power a new range of Macs.
Apple’s scary fast launch event
Apple has named the October event “Scary Fast” because it happens on Halloween eve in many locations worldwide.
The original Mac, formerly known as the Macintosh, was presented in early 1984, and this year marks the 25th anniversary of the iMac, one of the first devices introduced by Steve Jobs following his return to Apple in the late 1990s.
During the stream, Apple briefly stated, “This event was shot on iPhone and edited on Mac.” Apple made a rather bold move by filming their whole 30-minute hardware event on a phone.
An event for just 30 minutes and launching major gadgets : Three M3 in-house chips, two models of MacBook pro and a newest iMac that refreshes after 900 days.
M3 Chips
Today, Apple introduced the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max, its newest Chips, during its Scary Fast Event. With respect to their predecessors, these chipsets are expected to perform significantly better. The company claims that these chips are the first personal computer processors manufactured using the cutting-edge 3-nanometer process technology. This innovation increases speed and efficiency by densely packing transistors into a smaller space.
According to Apple, the M3 family of CPUs’ next-generation GPU marks a substantial advancement in graphics architecture for their technology.
The company claimed that this GPU has Dynamic Caching, which uses just the right amount of memory for each activity to allocate local memory in real time. Developers can see that this improves performance and increases GPU utilization for demanding professional apps and games.
Additionally, the M3 processors bring hardware-accelerated ray tracing to the Mac for the first time, allowing applications to mimic scene light behavior and produce realistic and physically accurate graphics. It is estimated that Pro programs can run at up to 2.5 times the performance of the previous M1 family of CPUs. Ray tracing allows game creators to create immersive settings with more accurate shadows and reflections.
Additionally, the new GPU has hardware-accelerated mesh shading, which improves geometry processing efficiency for graphically complex scenes in games and other graphics-intensive applications. The M3 GPU achieves the same performance as the M1 while consuming almost half the power and offering up to 65% more performance, maintaining Apple’s power efficiency.
Performance and efficiency cores are both architecturally improved in the next-generation CPU in the M3 series. Apple claims that the performance cores are now up to 30% faster than those in the M1 series.
The unified memory architecture found in Apple silicon, which is renowned for its high bandwidth, low latency, and superior power efficiency, is incorporated into the M3 family. All of the chip’s components can access data without duplicating it across memory pools thanks to a single shared memory pool in a customized packaging. This lowers the amount of memory used by the system for the majority of tasks, improving performance and efficiency. Additionally, it supports memory up to 128GB.
MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch
The 13-inch MacBook with M2 chipset that was introduced last year will be replaced by the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 processor.
The company has unveiled a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M3 CPU that is reasonably priced, with prices ranging from ₹1,69,900 to ₹1,99,900.
According to Apple, the performance of the 14-inch MacBook Pro is 60% better than that of the MacBook Pro with M1 chipset. Nevertheless, the newly released Space Black color is only available on higher-end models, leaving the budget MacBook Pro in Silver and Space Grey as the only color choices.
The cost of the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Pro CPU is ₹2,89,900 for the 36GB unified memory edition and ₹2,49,900 for the 18GB variant. Concurrently, the 16-inch MacBook Pro using the M3 Max CPU and 36GB and 48GB of combined RAM costs ₹3,49,900 and ₹3,99,900, respectively.
The same three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, a headphone jack, and a MagSafe 3 port are included with both versions. On the other hand, a 70W USB-C power adapter is included with the 512GB model and a 90W one with the 1TB variant.
Apple’s New iMac
The M3 chip powers the new 24-inch iMac, which has storage choices of 256GB and 512GB. According to Apple, the new iMac can operate up to 2.5 times quicker than the Intel-powered model and up to two times faster than the M1-powered one from the previous generation.
With 11.3 million pixels and a maximum brightness of 500 nits, the new iMac boasts a 4.5K Retina display, a six-speaker system with support for Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio, along with a 1080p FaceTime camera.
Apple revealed the new M3 chipsets would be added to the iMac. The iMac’s other features and design haven’t altered much, but the addition of Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 has increased communication.
With two Thunderbolt or USB 4 connectors, two USB 3 ports, gigabit ethernet, and Touch ID compatibility, the iMac with a 10-core GPU and 256GB of storage and 8GB of unified memory costs ₹1,54,900 in India.
In India, the iMac base model with 256GB of storage and 8GB of unified memory costs ₹134900. The base model is offered in four color options: Pink, Green, Blue, and Silver. It has two Thunderbolt or four USB connections.
At ₹1,74,900, the top-of-the-line iMac is equipped with 512GB of storage and 8GB of unified memory. Seven color variations are offered for the higher-end iMac: blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange, and purple.
Apple still sells peripherals that match the color of the iMac, but they still have the company’s exclusive lightning port instead of the USB C port. Customers will have to wait until November 7 to receive their hands on the new iMac, but it is currently available for order on the Apple India website.
According to Apple, the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max’s efficiency helps the MacBook Pro and iMac achieve Apple’s energy efficiency criteria and allows the MacBook Pro to have the longest Mac battery life ever, up to 22 hours.
