Madhavi Latha’s accusations on the police
In a recent ANI podcast with Smita Prakash, Hyderabad’s BJP leader Madhavi Latha raised serious concerns about her being harassed by the police in Hyderabad.
Latha, who is contesting elections against AIMIM’s Owaisi has claimed that for the past 2 days, she has been under constant surveillance from several police officers. She has also raised questions on the one-sided appeasement of the AIMIM government and called the rule worse than Aurnagzeb’s rule.
Madhavi Latha’s Journey
Not only Hyderabad but the entire country has been looking at who Madhavi Latha is after the BJP announced her ticket to contest against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen’s (AIMIM) Asaduddin Owaisi from Hyderabad. She has completed her master’s degree in political science from Osmania University. The announcement of her ticket was even a shocking revelation to her as she came to know about it while watching the news on her TV.
Talks with ANI
In the recent talks on the podcast of 25th March, she has shown her staunch opposition to the AIMIM government and their ideology. She poses them as an authoritarian and controlling government, not a democratic one. Her experience of being threatened and harassed despite being a prominent leader, even in Hindu majority areas she claimed to have spotted up to 20 policemen following her regularly.
She goes on to describe this experience as haunting and choking, raising concerns about the nature of surveillance and police in the state.
Later, she criticized the AIMIM government for keeping the general population of Hyderabad poor to manipulate votes so that the party keeps coming back to power. She criticized the infrastructure and went on to paint a picture of Hyderabad with garbage-filled roads, potholes and lack of development. Latha raised questions on certain public orders issued by the administration where the government has labelled gaurakshaks as anti-social elements.
Intense competition
As the elections come closer, the competition between the parties is intensifying. Latha’s accusations paint a completely different picture of Hyderabad taking the elections on a different route.
