Israeli forces have ringed Gaza City, cutting off the heavily populated region from southern Gaza, as their ground invasion of Hamas moves further. Almost 400,000 Palestinians are still stranded in northern Gaza, even though hundreds of thousands of them left before the attack. According to reports, Hamas has taken up residence inside and beneath civilian infrastructure, and Israeli airstrikes on civilian targets like the Jabalia refugee camp have resulted in significant collateral damage. Calls for periodic humanitarian pauses have been refused by Israel thus far, but it has agreed to permit 100 relief trucks to enter the region every day.

Israel engages in rocket fire with Hezbollah in Lebanon and strikes Iran-linked targets in Syria, while the US conducts shuttle diplomacy amid regional tensions.

Context of the conflict

The Israel-Palestinian conflict began in the late 19th century with the adoption of Resolution 181, known as the Partition Plan, by the United Nations. This led to the creation of the State of Israel in 1948, triggering the first Arab-Israeli War. The war ended in 1949 with Israel’s victory, resulting in the displacement of 750,000 Palestinians and the division of Palestine into three parts: Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza Strip.

Israel’s invasion of the Sinai Peninsula in 1967 sparked tensions with Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Following the Suez Crisis, mutual defense pacts were signed, leading to the Six-Day War, resulting in Israel’s control over the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Golan Heights.

Son of senior Hezbollah MP killed in Israel bombing in Lebanon

Israeli forces killed Abbas Raad, son of a senior Hezbollah lawmaker, in an Israeli strike in south Lebanon. Raad, the head of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc, was killed along with other Hezbollah members in a strike on a house in Beit Yahun. The incident highlights the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Also, Israeli forces have killed four Hezbollah members, including Abbas Raad, in an air strike on a house in Beit Yahun, south Lebanon. The Israeli strike, launched by the Israeli enemy, resulted in the deaths of four people, including Raad.

The identities and photographs of the other Hezbollah members were not disclosed. The incident highlights the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.

Israel’s army has targeted Hezbollah targets and sources of fire from Lebanon, resulting in 107 deaths since cross-border exchanges began, including 75 Hezbollah fighters and 14 civilians, including journalists.

According to a report from Israel’s national security adviser, no captive releases are anticipated by Friday.

Release hostages before Friday, despite a truce between the two sides. Negotiations for their release are ongoing, and the releases will begin according to the original agreement, not before Friday. Israeli officials have announced that the release of hostages is advancing and will take place Israel’s national security adviser, Tzachi Hanegbi, stated that Hamas militants in Gaza will not according to the original agreement between Israel and Hamas.

The release will occur on Friday, and a media center will open in Tel Aviv on Thursday to cover the return of the hostages. The deal also included a four-day truce in the Gaza war, during which Palestinian militants would free at least 50 of the hostages taken in their attacks in daily batches.

Israel is experiencing a glimmer of hope regarding the Israel-Hamas deal.

Israel plans to release at least 150 Palestinian prisoners and allow more humanitarian aid into the coastal territory after six weeks of bombardment, heavy fighting, and a crippling siege. The war began after Hamas militants launched the worst attack in Israel’s history, killing 1,200 people and taking 240 hostages. Israel launched a major bombing campaign and a ground offensive in Gaza, which Hamas claims has killed 14,100 people, thousands of them children. Israel and Hamas have reached a deal, indicating readiness to engage despite high-profile propaganda and fighting.

They should build on the momentum and extend the pause into a full-fledged ceasefire to release hostages, provide Palestinian relief, and calm West Asian tensions, ultimately releasing all hostages.
